Frequently Asked Questions

With over 15 years experience providing music for all types of affairs, we have earned an excellent reputation for great music, exceptional talent and personalized service. In order to help you decide on a band for your event, here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

Can I decide what type of music will be played during my party?

We encourage our clients to go through our song list and highlight the selections they would like the band to play and cross out any selections they do not wish to hear. On the day of your event we will perform music you have chosen. Our band is also extremely capable of “reading the crowd” and choosing music we are confident will pack the dance floor.

Will the band learn a special song?

If you provide at least 4 weeks notice, and an MP3 of your song, we will learn up to 3 songs for your event.

Will the band perform at a volume that is comfortable for me and for my guests?

Renaissance will perform music which is especially suited for the dinner hour and to conversation. Also, as the party progresses we are always amenable to lowering the volume at your request.

How many breaks does the band take during the night and how long do they play?

A standard engagement is 1 hour for cocktails and 4 hours for the full band. If there is a ceremony before cocktails, arrangements can be made for music to be played during that time. Within 4 hours our band will play a on a continuous music basis, which means that we don’t take breaks or play recorded music, unless requested. During the quieter dinner hour, we rotate our musicians and there will always be 2/3 musicians who will continue to perform dinner music.

The ages of our guests will vary considerably. Can your band play all types of music?

The versatility and quality of musicianship in our band is such that our musicians can authentically perform a wide variety of music ranging from the ’40’s swing era to today’s Top 40 dance music. Our song list is very extensive and includes music from every era. You are always free to choose which songs you would like the band to play.

How can I be sure that the group of musicians I hire will be the same musicians who will perform at my affair?

Renaissance is a “set” group which means every member in our band will be the same every time. We do not randomly put together freelance musicians for each event as some organizations do. In the event of illness a substitute of equal ability will be contracted.

Can you provide music for our ceremony and/or cocktail hour?

Yes. You may choose to hire one or more of our musicians to perform for your ceremony. Your cocktail hour is included in our standard package. We can suggest music appropriate for your ceremony or you may choose your own music selections.

How many musicians are in the band?

Our band is 10 pieces, but we can expand to 12 or reduce to 6. The size of the band you hire should fit the type of function you are having, the kind of music you would like the band to play, the number of invited guests and the size of the room where your affair will take place. We take all this into consideration before recommending the size of the band. We do not reduce the size of the band for weddings, except under very special circumstances.

What is the price of your band?

For a complete explanation of our pricing, please fill out our “Contact Us” form to provide us the pertinent info for your event.

I am sure that Melissa and Paul will e-mail you, but I wanted to let you know how pleased Gary and I were with everything–from the ceremony music, to the soft jazz, to the party music as the reception–you guys are like a crezendo, starting soft and slow, and ending with the best dancing music ever. Many of our guests commented how great you were, and wanted to know how we “found you” (I gave all the credit to Paul). Even the “older” ones who could no longer make it to the dance floor, thought you were awesome!

Many thanks for all the time you spent with Melissa and Paul as they planned their wedding. You were a HUGE part in making this wedding such a success.
